Conditions of the Feet
The foot is a complex anatomical structure. It is an intricate arrangement of 24 bones in a double crossed arch joined together with tissues, joints and multiple ligaments. This formation works as a single unit with each element dependent on the other. When all these separate elements work as a coordinated unit, the foot performs effectively and without trouble. But as soon as one component goes out of sync, you begin to experience symptoms, typically foot pain. Regrettably with today’s more laid back lifestyle, we don’t exercise our feet as much as we should. This results in a higher incidence of conditions which affect the lower limb, the foot and the ankle. Common conditions are joint fractures, muscle sprains, ligament stretches and improper biomechanical alignment. Some of the reasons for pain are excessive running which causes muscle fatigue and walking on uneven ground. There are a number of other common foot conditions that affect Americans, like flat feet, calluses and corns, bunions and bursitis. Many of these result from wearing ill fitting shoes.
